Should i switch to graphite shafts

Products Pro V1. January 03, at PM Thinking of switching to graphite shafts now for my irons. Please sign in to comment. Dave M. January 04, at PM Sounds like graphite is in your future, although i wouldnt expect much in terms of gaining distance, but it will be easier on the body.

Graphite absorbs the impact so good and bad shots tend to feel about the same, steel doesnt absorb and gives a better feel sensation. Lots of champions tour players use graphite in their irons, you can find graphite that is heavier than some steel optiins. I suggest trying the T's with either the tensei red or the recoil shafts and see how they compare - the T's will be about a full club longer than the T's. Gabe B Eau Claire, Michigan.

Sometimes irons that feel too heavy can actually be too stiff of flex or maybe the swing weight has changed if you re-gripped your clubs with either a larger or smaller grip.

If your clubs feel too heavy, you should have a good clubfitter help you determine the proper weight, and then, try some shafts in both graphite and steel at the same weight to see which gives you the best distance, accuracy, consistency and feel. The same thing applies to reducing shaft vibration. There are Sensicore inserts available for steel shafts that reduce vibration. Graphite shafts definitely reduce shaft vibration so if you have arthritis or chronic tendonitis, this may be a good option.

Generally speaking, graphite shafts are better for seniors than steel shafts unless the senior still maintains very high swing speeds. There are some seniors in incredible shape that can easily hit a regular steel shaft in their iron.

Graphite shafts are much lighter and more expensive in comparison to steel shafts, and weigh between 50 and 85 grams. As a result, the lightweight shafts on graphite irons can help to create a greater swing speed for more power. Woods also occasionally carries a 2-iron. The majority of PGA Tour pros will use graphite shafts for their woods and steel shafts for their irons. This is because they generally have high swing speeds and benefit from the stiffer, more durable, steel shafts.

A shaft that is too stiff will absorb the force of the swing, which affects the timing of the transference of energy from the club to the ball at impact. The ball tends to fly lower, which impacts distance.
