When he talks about things to Monica, she realizes that she's not fine with the fling thing, and proposes to Richard that they get together again. He reminds her that while they could get back together, they would still be facing the same issues that caused them to break up in the first place, so the two agree for their own sake not to keep seeing each other anymore, but decide to have one last night of passion. Monica, who is now dating Chandler, tells Phoebe and Rachel that she ran into Richard and they had lunch and that she now feels nothing for him.
When Chandler finds out during the group's trip to Las Vegas, the two have a big fight. Once they reconcile, they decide to get married in the Season Finale during the Season 6 premiere, they get cold feet and decide to just move in together instead.
Richard makes his final appearance, interfering with Chandler's plans to propose to Monica, stating that he is finally willing to get married and have children. He backs down after realizing that Chandler is prepared to offer her the same thing, and that they are happy together.
After Joey decides to invest his money, Monica suggests real estate after hearing from her father that Richard's apartment is for sale. Chandler accompanied him there, but Richard was not home, and the realtor told them that he was buying a much larger apartment, with a view of Central Park.
Chandler and Joey also find and take a tape with Monica's name on it, and though Richard had recorded over the original footage with video of him with another woman, Monica confirms that the tape originally of her and Richard having sex.

Instead, they simply resolved the issue in front of the others. When Monica and Chandler learned how difficult it would be to have a child naturally, they decided to adopt. Joey's past romantic entanglements almost derailed their home visit, but they got past that hiccup.
However, when they went to the adoption agency, they realized that they mixed up the files. Rather than point out the mistake immediately, they went along with the lie, Monica more eagerly than Chandler. However, none of that made sense. Monica and Chandler shouldn't have lied because they should've been worried about how it could affect them when they were caught.
There also should have been consequences — or discussion of consequences — for the lying. Monica and Chandler hid their relationship from the others in the beginning. When Joey found out, he ended up helping them keep their secret.
When the others found things that would've revealed their relationship an item of clothing, a video camera, and a personal photo of Monica , they said they were all Joey's. When it got to be too much for him, Joey lied and said he and Monica were together in London. He claimed that Monica wanted to be with him again and placed the blame on her.
While it made Joey look good, it was ridiculous that Monica and Chandler but especially Monica went along with it. At that point, they should have just told the truth. Everyone was waiting for Chandler's commitment issues to kick in when he and Monica got married. When heard her call them the Bings on their answering machine, they did. He ran out, leaving an apology note, but the others hid it from Monica.
They tracked him down and brought him back in time to be there for the ceremony. However, Monica did find out, during the wedding. Though Chandler's sweet vows helped, it was still something the couple should have discussed, even after they got married.
They never did. Instead, everyone became focused on the fact that Rachel was pregnant. She had originally claimed the test had to be Monica's because she wasn't ready to share her news yet. Monica and Chandler were friends for years before they got together. Then, they got married a few years before the series ended. Yet, throughout the 10 seasons, there were still things they discovered about each other they should have already known. Chandler hid his dislike of dogs from everyone except for Joey.
The others only found out because Phoebe hid a dog in the apartment. Then, Chandler finally asked about a closet Monica kept locked, in which she kept various items. Even before he lived with her, he lived across the hall and was always over at her apartment. How did he not notice it was locked until that episode?
Also, Monica should have known not to tell Chandler about a funny guy at work; being funny was obviously his thing. Soon after Monica and Chandler started dating, he learned why he lost a toe at Thanksgiving with the Gellers years ago.
To apologize for her role in the event, Monica put a turkey on her head and danced. In response, Chandler told her he loved her. That was the first "I love you" either of them said in their relationship. He tried to pretend he didn't say it, but Monica heard him and acknowledged it. Since Chandler wanted to act like he didn't say it as soon as he did, his lack of follow-up was understandable.
However, Monica's wasn't. She and Chandler kiss. Monica asks Richard about their future plans. Richard sees them in France, a happy couple without kids. Monica, however, is keen on having children of her own, but doesn't pursue the subject as she fears it would become uncomfortable. At Barry and Mindy's wedding, she and Richard tackle the subject again; however, neither of them has shifted position from before.
While dancing, Richard offers to have kids with Monica if he has to. This, unfortunately, is not good enough for Monica, as she wants to have a baby with someone who genuinely wants to have children. The two break up. Jackie Bright - Mr. Weinberg Fritzi Burr - Mrs. When Monica and Richard eventually broke up, it was over the fact that Monica wanted to have children with him.
Richard, having already had kids and even grandchildren, by that stage , made it clear that he was happy to compromise if he "had to" in order to stay in a relationship with her. Obviously, this was less than pleasing to Monica, who wanted to hear that her boyfriend emphatically wanted to have more of his own children with her, not just as a compromise. However, he was more than positive in relaying how happy he'd be in doing the whole "4 o'clock feeding thing" and being a doting father to their child.
Monica's response of breaking up because Richard felt as though children was something he had to do rather than something he wanted to do, felt a little hasty. After all, compromise is a big part of all healthy relationships, and to simply dismiss Richard's offer as being less than perfect felt as though she'd idealized a scenario which is often less than perfect.
Instead, Monica entered a relationship with Chandler, a man who would happily provide her with children and who was happy to allow Monica to take the lead in dictating the structure and the terms of their relationship. Though their relationship felt genuine and possibly healthier than the one she shared with Richard, it also felt as though Monica was simply settling for a man who could give her an idealized version of her future on her terms.
I don't know, maybe I've been blinded by notions of romance my entire life, but I do strongly believe that a healthy relationship isn't just one that's based on a solid friendship and respect, but also one that's still bustling with some kind of passion at every stage.
Perhaps that in itself is an idealized concept too, but beyond their shady hook-ups at the start of their relationship, Monica and Chandler's romance barely felt passionate.
It felt stable, sure, and that's great, but where was the chemistry? In Season 6, when Chandler pretty foolishly, let's face it pretends to play cool with Monica's heart in order to truly surprise her with a proposal, Richard sweeps back into her life.
